DELETE HISTORY

This series of drawings portrays fight scenes between characters from the classic video game Street Fighter and sculptures from art history.

The show’s ironic title, “Delete History,” plays on two levels: first, the act of erasing one’s browser history in today’s digital culture; and second, the visual narrative of combat between iconic video game characters and archetypal historical figures—each placed in an imagined arena to battle in one-on-one matches.

The works explore a tension between two opposing realms: the contemporary, represented by screen-based imagery, and the traditional, embodied by classical art-historical sculptures. This dialogue between past and present is not only central to the subject matter, but also to the process by which the works were created.

Seeking an analogue method to materialize digital images, each drawing was produced manually on a typewriter, built line by line using various letters and symbols reminiscent of code. This slow, deliberate process stands in stark contrast to the speed of digital consumption—turning deceleration into a key element of the work, particularly in an age defined by information overload and fleeting screen-based interactions.

This exhibition marks the first time the entire series is presented together. The drawings will be installed on a site-specific wallpaper designed especially for the show.
