José Fiol

Biography

Jose Fiol (Palma, Mallorca, 1978) is a visual artist known for his ability to explore and reinterpret collective memory through the reconfiguration of images. His education at the Centro de Estudios Fotográficos shaped his creative process, establishing the use of archives and visual resignification as the foundation of his practice. Through a distinctive approach that blends figurative and conceptual collage, Fiol has created an artistic space where images serve as catalysts for new interpretations and contemporary narratives.

His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Notable solo exhibitions include The Green Fog at Es Baluard Museum in Palma (2025), the XXXIV Sant Marçal Painting Competition in Marratxí (2023), and various shows at Galeria Fran Reus in Palma (2022, 2019, 2016). His work has also featured in prominent group exhibitions at Es Baluard Museum (2019), Casal Solleric (2019), White Box Art Center in Beijing (2018), and The Art House in Worcester (2018).

Fiol has received several grants and awards, including the Creation Grant from the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (2024, 2022, 2020), the X Vila de Santanyí Francisco Bernareggi Visual Arts Award (2022), the XXXIV Sant Marçal Painting Competition Prize (2021), the Ajuntament de Palma and Fundació Joan Miró Creation and Research Grant (2020), an artistic residency at White Box Art Center in Beijing (2018), and the Can Felipa Visual Arts Award (2018).
